A new listing from the Writers Guild of America (WGA) has officially pulled back the curtain on the project’s length. The Punisher Special Presentation is slated to run for 60 minutes.

To put that into perspective, this makes it the longest Special Presentation Marvel Studios has produced to date. For comparison, 2022’s Werewolf by Night clocked in at around 53 minutes, while the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special was a brisker 42 minutes. This hour-long runtime suggests Marvel is giving Frank Castle plenty of room to breathe—and likely plenty of room for some high-octane, TV-MA action.

Jon Bernthal Takes the Lead (and the Pen)

Perhaps even more exciting than the runtime is the creative team behind the special. The WGA listing confirms that Jon Bernthal isn’t just starring; he is also credited as a co-writer alongside Reinaldo Marcus Green.

Green, who previously worked with Bernthal on the critically acclaimed series We Own This City and the Oscar-winning King Richard, is also set to direct. This partnership suggests a grounded, character-driven approach that aligns with Bernthal’s previous statements that he wants the MCU version of Frank to remain true to the "darkness" of the character. This definitely won't be "Punisher-lite."

While official plot details are still mostly under lock and key, the timing of the release tells us a lot. The special is expected to drop on Disney+ in mid-2026, likely serving as a bridge between the events of Daredevil: Born Again and Frank’s rumored appearance in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which hits theaters in July 2026.

Rumors from the set have already teased a confrontation with the infamous Ma Gnucci, a fan-favorite villain from the comics. If the hour-long runtime is any indication, we can expect a self-contained story that re-establishes Frank Castle as a major force in the MCU's street-level landscape.
