Man Utd Seal £74m Agreement for Leipzig Striker Sesko

Manchester United has reached an agreement to sign striker Benjamin Sesko from Red Bull Leipzig in a deal worth up to £73.7 million (€85 million). The initial fee is a guaranteed £66.3 million (€76.5 million), with the remaining amount covered by add-ons.

The 22-year-old Slovenian is expected to undergo his medical on Friday to finalize his move to Old Trafford. Sesko, who was also a target for Newcastle, has an impressive record of 39 goals in 87 appearances for the German club.

Summer Spending Continues at Old Trafford

This signing marks another significant investment for United this summer, following the arrivals of forwards Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo for a combined fee of around £130 million. The club has structured these payments to allow for further spending.

United's financial position has also been bolstered by several key transactions. The loan of Marcus Rashford to Barcelona is covering his entire £325,000-a-week salary. Additionally, United received £5 million from Chelsea after the Blues backed out of a deal for Jadon Sancho. The club is also hoping to receive another £50 million for winger Alejandro Garnacho, who is attracting interest from Chelsea and has been told he can leave. Meanwhile, last season's main striker, Rasmus Hojlund, is available for sale for £40 million after scoring only 14 Premier League goals in two seasons.

A Major Blow for Newcastle

Sesko's decision to join United is a setback for Newcastle, who have already missed out on Hugo Ekitike to Liverpool. The Magpies now face the possibility of losing their star striker, Alexander Isak, who is also being linked with a move to Anfield.

A Rising Star with Elite Attributes

Sesko is currently Europe’s top-scoring player under the age of 23 in the top five leagues. Since his move to Germany, he has scored 39 goals in 87 games, putting him ahead of Real Madrid's Jude Bellingham and five goals clear of Florian Wirtz, who recently joined Liverpool for £100 million.

The Slovenian forward is known for his physicality, speed, and finishing ability. Often compared to Erling Haaland—a comparison not just based on their shared time at Salzburg—Sesko was one of the fastest strikers in the Bundesliga, clocking a top speed of 35.7 km/h. He also excelled in the air, boasting the best aerial success rate among strikers who competed in at least 60 aerial duels.
