Hey there, let's talk about something that's been in the news. You know the Jan. 6, 2021, rally in Washington D.C.? Well, there's been some important news about one of the people who helped organize it, Caroline Wren.
A Judge's Order: $2,000 a Day
So, a Federal judge recently made a big decision. Judge Donald Middlebrooks has ordered Caroline Wren to pay $2,000 every single day! Why? Because she hasn't been cooperating with a subpoena. A subpoena is basically a legal order asking someone to provide information or show up in court, and it seems Wren hasn't been following it.
The judge said this daily fine needs to be "stiff enough" to make sure she finally complies. He really wants her to follow the court's orders.
Why Is This Happening?
It turns out that Wren was reportedly a connection between the first Trump White House and the people involved in the Jan. 6 rally. She was supposedly helping to get speakers and plan the schedule for that day.
Capitol Police officers have been trying to get information, as they accuse the former president of causing the events that happened after the rally. This lawsuit has actually been going on for four years.
Not the Only One...
Interestingly, Caroline Wren isn't the only person who hasn't been showing up for hearings. Another prominent figure, Rudy Giuliani, has also reportedly been quiet since he received a subpoena back in April 2024. Lawyers for the police officers mentioned that they've heard "radio silence" from him. Judge Edgardo Ramos is also looking into that situation.
What's Next?
Judge Middlebrooks has made it clear he doesn't want to send anyone to jail if he can avoid it. He said, "I don't want to resort to incarceration if at all possible." However, he also mentioned that if Wren continues to not cooperate, they "may need to take additional steps."
It seems the courts are serious about getting answers regarding the Jan. 6 events, and they're hoping these daily fines will encourage cooperation. We'll have to see how this unfolds!
